Show POP →Quick Mill was founded in 1945 near Milan and has been manufacturing coffee machines since the 1960s, developing and producing them in its own factory in Senago. The family-run company covers both: models for home use and machines for the hospitality industry.

The POP features an insulated thermoblock and a PID control. The brewing temperature can be selected in fixed increments between 88 and 93 °C. The machine reaches the set temperature in about five minutes. A consistent temperature management supports a constant brewing process, which is particularly advantageous for light specialty roasts.
The thermoblock reaches the brewing temperature in about one minute and may exhibit slight temperature fluctuations during multiple espresso extractions in succession. A manometer displays the pump pressure.
The portafilter has a diameter of 58 mm and three lugs, and according to the manufacturer, it is suitable for Quick Mill E61 brew groups. For other brands or models, we recommend checking compatibility based on the brew group specifications.
The Carola PID maintains the brew temperature stable for two to three espresso shots. After that, the machine waits briefly to reach temperature again. The E61 brew group contributes to temperature stability. The PID displays the boiler temperature, not the temperature in the brew group. The vibration pump is suitable for home use.
The massive, chrome-plated brass portafilter impresses with its noticeably higher weight and the premium feel compared to standard aluminum portafilters. When clamped in, it feels more stable in the hand. The brass also provides better thermal stability during extraction, as it retains temperature longer. Especially when making several espressos in succession, this contributes to a more consistent temperature and thus more consistent results. In practical everyday use, the difference compared to aluminum portafilters is noticeable.
With the Carola, pre-infusion is only possible manually via the lever of the E61 brew group. You control the saturation of the coffee bed by moving the brew lever slowly. This model does not offer automatic or programmable pre-infusion. Experience and sensitivity help you achieve optimal extraction.
The ring brew group of the POP has a lower thermal mass than the classic E61. It heats up faster but stores less heat. The thermoblock system with PID actively regulates the temperature. The E61 stabilizes the temperature passively through its metal mass. The POP is therefore ready for use faster but requires a short recovery after a shot. The E61 ensures more consistent temperatures with multiple extractions.
The thermoblock system of the Orione operates without PID control; the temperature is fixed and not adjustable. For specialty roasts, this means you lack the ability to vary it deliberately. Additionally, thermoblocks can fluctuate between individual extractions, especially at the beginning. If reproducible extraction is important to you, the Carola with a 0.5 L brass boiler and PID control would be the better choice, as it maintains the temperature more consistently and allows for adjustments.
Functional: Three lugs distribute the clamping force more evenly across the brew group gasket. This ensures a more stable fit and less misalignment when locking in. Especially with E61 groups that have higher counterpressure, the portafilter is held more securely. Two-lug variants may give slightly under strong lever pressure. In everyday use and with frequent use, you will feel the additional stability.
The Carola PID operates with an E61 brew group made of chrome-plated brass and a copper boiler. With the help of the PID control, the brew temperature can be precisely set and maintained between 88 and 93 °C. This supports the machine in achieving a consistent extraction with light specialty roasts, such as washed coffee from Ethiopia or Kenya. Compared to thermoblock systems, the Carola PID offers significantly better temperature stability. Those who frequently want to test different temperatures may also find models with a dual boiler system, such as the Bezzera Magica S PID, interesting.
