What sets the Bezzera Nini PID DE apart from its siblings?

The same product line, different configurations. The rows come from the same data sheet that appears further below.

Same for all: Construction, Group head, Preinfusion, Flow control, Boiler volume

heat exchangerThis page
Bezzera Nini PID DE
Bezzera Nini PID DE Price from £1,465.00
Construction
heat exchanger
Group head
BZ group head

Bezzera's own brew group, actively heated. Be careful with accessories: the portafilter connection is different from an E61, they are not interchangeable. Tampers and levelers still fit, because their size refers to the basket, not the group.

Temperature control
yes

A PID control continuously measures the temperature and regulates the heater accordingly, instead of simply switching it on and off at a threshold. The difference does not show in the first espresso of the day but in the third in a row: the machine hits the same point again.

Preinfusion
mechanical

Before full pressure the coffee grounds are pre-wetted with low pressure. This is done mechanically through the design of the brew group, without electronics and without adjustments. It prevents channeling in the puck, that is spots where the water breaks through too quickly.

Flow control
no

With Flow Control you manually control how quickly the water runs through the coffee grounds: start slowly, then increase pressure. That takes the edge off acidic beans and gives you an extra adjustment. Without Flow Control the extraction runs at a fixed pressure, and that is enough for most recipes.

Boiler volume
1.5 l
Boiler material
copper

Copper conducts heat quickly and evenly, which is why it is the classic boiler material. It reacts more sensitively to hard water than stainless steel; a water filter or soft water significantly extends the time between descalings.

Water connection
water tank

With a tank the machine does not need a water connection and can be placed anywhere there is a power outlet. For that you have to refill, and the water quality is in your hands: filtered or soft water reduces descaling.

Steam power
normal to high
Extraction
volumetrics

The machine measures the amount of water that has passed through and stops automatically. This makes shots repeatable without anyone watching the scale and is the reason this technique comes from the foodservice industry.

Pump type
vibration pump

The vibration pump is the most common type for home use: compact, affordable, reliable. It is audible, namely for the duration of the extraction, about half a minute.

Cup warmer
yes

The top surface of the machine is warmed by residual heat. A prewarmed cup draws less heat from the espresso, and those last degrees decide whether it still tastes the same in the glass as in the cup.

Standby
no

The machine switches itself off after a set time or goes into a low-power state. That saves electricity when you turn it on in the morning and then forget about it during the day. Without standby it stays on until you switch it off.

Portafilter diameter
58 mm

58 millimeters is the most common size. Baskets, tampers, levelers and distributors are available for it from many manufacturers, so you are not tied to an unusual size or a single supplier.

Who the Bezzera Nini PID DE is made for

Full technology on the footprint of a toaster.

A heat exchanger keeps brew water and steam ready at the same time. You pull espresso and steam milk without switching and without waiting.

  1. 01 Milk drinks without waitingHeat exchanger: pull espresso and steam milk at the same time.
  2. 02 For those who seek the temperaturePID control instead of on and off at a threshold. Lighter coffee needs different values than darker coffee, and here you set them.
  3. 03 Small kitchens25 cm wide. Space does not determine the technology.

Should I buy the Bezzera Nini PID DE espresso machine, dual boiler with PID and dosing or the Bezzera Nini DE espresso machine, dual boiler with dosing electronics?

If you value precise temperature control and four programmable cup sizes, the Bezzera Nini PID DE is the better choice.

Is the Bezzera Nini PID DE espresso machine, a dual boiler with PID and dosing, suitable for filter coffee?

The Bezzera Nini PID DE espresso machine features a volumetric dosing system for programmable cup sizes. A PID temperature control ensures precise regulation of the brew temperature. The machine is designed as a dual boiler for espresso and is not specifically suitable for filter coffee.

How does the PID control of the Nini PID DE differ from the normal Nini DE, does it regulate both circuits or just the brew circuit?

The Nini PID DE differs from the regular Nini DE in that it has a PID control for the temperature regulation of the boiler (steam circuit). The temperature of the brew circuit is not regulated by PID in either model.

Is volumetric dosing really worth it with the Nini PID DE, or do I, as a professional, prefer to work with a scale anyway?

The 4 programmable buttons of the DE electronics make it easier to reproduce espresso shots at the push of a button during service operations. For the development of new recipes or when testing beans, a precision scale is still recommended. Standard shots can be saved and manually stopped if necessary. The fifth button activates the continuous mode with manual control. The integrated shot timer runs continuously during this process.

Which machine from the Nini family would you recommend for 15-20 shots per day, is the manual PM sufficient or do I need the DE dosing?

For 15–20 shots per day, I recommend the Nini DE with dosing function, as it provides more user comfort and consistent quality at this volume.

Can I retrofit the Bezzera Flow Control Kit on the Nini PID DE, or is it factory-installed?

The Bezzera Flow-Control Kit is not included as standard with the Nini PID DE. It can be optionally retrofitted as an accessory. This allows for manual control of the pressure profile during extraction. The Nini PID DE already comes standard with a mechanical pre-infusion via the BZ brew group.

How precisely does the PID control of the Nini PID DE actually regulate the brewing temperature, are we talking about ±1°C or is that just marketing?

The PID control of the Nini PID DE allows for a stable brewing temperature and enables precise temperature adjustment on the display. The control only affects the brewing circuit, not the steam boiler, which is controlled separately by a pressure switch. A flush workflow as seen in machines without PID is therefore not necessary. Specific information regarding the maximum temperature fluctuation is not available to us.

What advantages does volumetric dosing specifically bring when experimenting with different varieties, or is manual extraction more flexible?

For experimenting with different varieties, manual brewing is recommended, as you can respond more flexibly to changes during the extraction and adjust the result individually.

Is the Bezzera brew group equipped with Fast-Heating technology, or do I need the classic 25 minutes heating time?

No, the Nini PID DE does not have fast-heating technology. It only operates on Sole, Luce, and Aria Top PID. You need about 10 minutes until the brew group and copper boiler are stable. The Bezzera brew group heats via the electric resistance with PID, faster than E61 thermosiphon, but slower than fast-heating models. In return, you get a 1.5-liter copper boiler with solid steam power. If you want espresso quickly in the morning: use a timer.
