You enter exactly the amount you want to grind. That way no beans sit in the hopper for days, and changing variety does not cost you half a hopper fill.
The diameter of the grinding burrs determines how many revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee.
Flat burrs grind with two parallel rings and deliver a tight particle size distribution.
Stepless means you can adjust continuously, even between two clicks.
You decide how long to grind.
A small hopper means more frequent refilling, but the bean in the basket is always fresh from the bag.
Single Dose means you put in exactly the amount you want to grind.
The grinder output indicates how much ground coffee comes out per second.
The manufacturer's guideline for how much coffee the burrs can handle before they should be replaced.
The numbers from the data sheet, in the order that matters. A faster grinder does not grind better, it only grinds more.
The larger the burrs, the fewer revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee. The grounds heat up less, and heat in the ground coffee costs aroma. Installed are special steel.
Manufacturer specification for when the burrs should be replaced. Dull burrs are not noticeable by the grind appearance, but only by taste.
For 18 g of coffee, calculated from 2,5 g per second. For a single drink you hardly notice it: brewing and milk foam take longer than grinding. For 50 drinks during peak time that is about 1 minutes less grinding time than the mid-range of our assortment.
These are 350 square centimeters of counter that are permanently occupied. At 25 cm height you need space above it for refilling.
That would be about 130 espressos per day at 18 g per shot. The maximum performance quoted by the manufacturer, not a recommendation for everyday use. If you regularly operate in this range, schedule maintenance more frequently.
All values come from the data sheet of this device. If a specification is missing, it is not listed here.

The diameter of the grinding burrs determines how many revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee. Larger burrs need fewer revolutions, the grind warms up less, and heat in the grind reduces aroma.
Flat burrs grind with two parallel rings and deliver a tight particle size distribution. You do not recognize dull burrs by appearance but by the fact that the shot runs faster than usual.
Stepless means you can adjust continuously, even between two clicks. That is useful when a bean falls exactly between two settings, but it requires that you remember your setting.
The manufacturer's guideline for how much coffee the burrs can handle before they should be replaced. You do not notice dull burrs by their appearance but because the extraction runs faster than usual at the same setting.
You decide how long to grind. The most reliable way is with a scale because otherwise the amount shifts with grind size and bean.
The grinder output indicates how much ground coffee comes out per second. For a single drink you hardly notice it, as extraction and milk determine the time. You only feel it when many drinks are made back to back.
A small hopper means more frequent refilling, but the bean in the basket is always fresh from the bag. For single shots this gives the better result.

The Mahlkönig X64 SD Single Dose coffee grinder is suitable for filter coffee. You can adjust the grind size steplessly between 120 and 1,500 µm. The grinding system made of hardened steel delivers a fine and even result, which is important for filter coffee.
The X64 SD is designed for single-dose use. When switching between different single origins, the beans can be easily exchanged. Purging remains minimal most of the time. You get consistent results when dialing in. It is recommended if you often want to test different varieties.
The X64 SD features a stepless grind size adjustment from 120µm to 1,500µm. This covers the range for turbo shots (140–160µm) and the required range for light V60 filter roasts (800–1,200µm). The 64mm flat burrs ensure consistent particle size and slightly more heat generation than conical grinders. For espresso, you use about 10–15% of the adjustment range. If you regularly switch between espresso and filter, the X64 SD is one of the few single-dose grinders that can uncompromisingly handle both applications.
The manufacturer's specification of "under 65 dB" cannot be directly substantiated based on the Home-Barista posts. Many users find the X64 SD to be noticeably quieter in operation than classic grinders, but not particularly silent. Compared to a Mazzer Kony S, it appears to be significantly more subdued, yet still clearly audible. The RPM is lower than that of fast commercial grinders, which reduces noise. The grinder is suitable for an open kitchen, but it does not achieve nighttime silence. Some users report: Quieter than Niche Zero or DF64, but without true whisper quality. Those who want it almost silent must resort to hand grinders.
The exact outlet height of the X64 SD for direct portafilter dosing is not specified in the available specifications. To check if the grinder can be used under your E61 brew group, it is advisable to make a direct inquiry with the manufacturer. Alternatively, many baristas use dosing cups when space is limited.
