Eureka Atlas 85 Nero Opaco – High-performance café grinder with 85 mm flat burrs

The Eureka Atlas 85 in the Nero Opaco finish is a professional on-demand espresso grinder designed for coffee shops, restaurants, and discerning home baristas with high daily throughput. With its 85 mm flat burrs made of hardened steel and a 510 W motor, it delivers a grinding speed of 7–8.5 g/s—meaning a double shot is ground in about 2.1 to 2.6 seconds. The Atlas 85 is manufactured in Florence, Italy, and combines commercial-grade build quality with precise operating logic.

85 mm flat burrs for superior grind quality at high throughput

The 85 mm flat grinding discs made of hardened steel offer a significantly larger grinding surface than more compact professional grinders. The result: a more uniform grind, lower specific heat generation per gram of coffee, and thermal reserves for intensive back-to-back brews in everyday café operations.

Touch display with three programmable dosers

The multi-color touch display allows you to program dosing times for single, double, and manual continuous dosing. Brightness, background color, standby timer, and language selection are individually configurable. An integrated dose counter logs every dispense and supports a controlled workflow in commercial settings.

Micrometric grind adjustment – stepless and precise

The patented micrometric, stepless grind adjustment allows for the finest corrections without interrupting the workflow. This lets you precisely adjust the grind to the bean, roast, and brew profile—essential for specialty coffee profiles with high repeatability.

Direct drive with 510 W power and 1,350 rpm

The direct-drive motor delivers the necessary torque reserve for high throughput with 510 W EU power consumption (220–240 V / 50 Hz) and 1,350 rpm. The direct drive operates without a gearbox—reducing vibrations, heat generation, and wear.

ACE System against clumping and electrostatic charge

The ACE System (Anti Clumps & Electrostaticity) developed by Eureka reduces static charge in the ground material and minimizes clumping in the discharge. The result is consistent extraction and a clean workspace—even at high stroke rates.

Silent Technology – noticeably quieter in operation

Eureka’s Silent Technology is based on an anti-vibration concept and, according to the manufacturer, reduces grinding noise by approximately 20 dB compared to conventional grinders. Eureka does not provide a specific dB(A) rating for the Atlas 85.

Hands-Free portafilter holder with integrated lighting

The height-adjustable hands-free portafilter holder securely holds the portafilter in place and allows for two-handed operation. The integrated LED lighting ensures a clear view during dosing—a crucial convenience factor in café operations.

Large bean hopper and High-Speed Maintenance

With a 1.4 kg capacity, the bean hopper is designed for high daily throughput. The high-speed maintenance concept simplifies maintenance and burr replacement—Eureka recommends an inspection every 250 kg of coffee throughput—an important factor for long-term cost-effectiveness in commercial use.

Who is the Eureka Atlas 85 the right choice for?

The Atlas 85 is aimed at cafés, restaurants, high-volume food service establishments, event catering, and pro home baristas with more than 15 brews per day. Compared to the more compact Atlas 65, it grinds a double shot about 1.5 to 2 seconds faster and offers greater thermal reserves during intense brewing peaks.

For moderate throughput in home barista, office, or boutique café settings, we recommend the more compact Eureka Atlas 65 with 65 mm burrs.

Buying Guide: Eureka Atlas 65 or Atlas 85 – Which Grinder Is Right for You?

Eureka’s Atlas range covers two distinct application areas with the Atlas 65 and the Atlas 85. Both grinders share the same design philosophy, operating logic, and technologies such as the ACE System, Silent Technology, and hands-free portafilter fork. The key differences lie in the size of the grinding discs, motor power, and throughput capacity.

Recommendation based on usage profile

Usage profile Daily throughput Recommendation
Home Barista 1–5 shots/day The Atlas 65 is the more economical choice. The Atlas 85 is only worth it as a comfort upgrade.
Pro Home Barista 5–20 shots/day The Atlas 65 is sufficient. The Atlas 85 significantly reduces wait times for guests and back-to-back brews.
Small café / event catering 20–60 shots/day Atlas 85 recommended – higher thermal reserves and approximately 65% faster grinding speed during peaking.
Medium-sized café 60–150 shots/day The Atlas 85 is the right choice. The Atlas 65 is borderline here.
High-volume café >150 shots/day continuously Both Atlas models are reaching their limits. Dedicated commercial grinders like the Mahlkönig E65S are recommended.

When is the extra cost for the Atlas 85 worth it?

Three clear criteria speak in favor of the Atlas 85:

  1. Grinding time as a measurable bottleneck: Starting at around 15–20 shots per day, the Atlas 85 saves 20–40 seconds of grinding time daily. The speed advantage becomes subjectively noticeable at 30 shots per day.
  2. Thermal reserve: With the same power consumption, the Atlas 85 distributes the heat over a larger grinding surface. During back-to-back shots, it runs with greater thermal stability.
  3. Workflow convenience: 2.1–2.6 seconds per double shot instead of 3.3–4.5 seconds is noticeable in daily use—especially when guests are waiting at the counter.

Rule of thumb: Anyone who regularly wants to grind more than 10–15 double shots in a row without a break, or who runs a small café, will benefit measurably from the Atlas 85. Home baristas grinding 1–5 shots daily primarily gain convenience and thermal reserves—the grind quality of both models is identical.

What both grinders DO NOT offer

  • No blow-up system for virtually retention-free single-dose grinding (this is offered, for example, by the Atom Specialty 65)
  • No 10-year motor warranty – this applies exclusively to selected Mignon models
  • No adjustable spout
  • No scale-based (grind-by-weight) dosing – both operate on a timer

Frequently Asked Questions about the Eureka Atlas 85

What applications is the Atlas 85 suitable for?

The Atlas 85 is designed as a commercial on-demand grinder and is suitable for cafés, restaurants, high-volume food service establishments, event catering, and professional home baristas who grind more than 15 shots per day. The Eureka manual classifies the Atlas models for commercial applications such as restaurants, cafeterias, and bakeries, but not for continuous, high-volume operation exceeding 150 shots per hour.

How does the Atlas 85 differ from the Atlas 65?

The Atlas 85 features 85 mm flat burrs (Atlas 65: 65 mm), 510 W motor power (Atlas 65: 360 W), and a grinding speed of 7–8.5 g/s (Atlas 65: 4–5.5 g/s). A double shot is ground in 2.1 to 2.6 seconds with the Atlas 85—about 1.5 to 2 seconds faster than with the Atlas 65. It also offers greater thermal reserves during intensive back-to-back brewing.

What color options are available?

Eureka offers the Atlas 85 in three official color options: Nero Opaco (matte black), Bianco (white), and Rosso Ferrari (Ferrari red). At Naturbohne, we currently carry the Nero Opaco model.

How loud is the Atlas 85 in operation?

Eureka does not specify an absolute decibel value for the Atlas 85. According to the manufacturer, the integrated Silent Technology reduces grinding noise by approximately 20 dB compared to conventional grinders. Thanks to its direct drive, the grinder also operates with less vibration than gear-driven models.

How often do the grinding discs need to be replaced?

Eureka recommends checking the grinding discs for wear every 250 kg of coffee throughput and replacing them if necessary. Only genuine Eureka replacement parts should be used for maintenance. REPA has served as the Global Master Distributor for Eureka replacement parts since June 2025.

How many shots per day can the Atlas 85 handle?

Eureka does not publish an official daily capacity figure. Based on the technical parameters (Ton 30 s, Toff 280 s), the Atlas 85 is suitable for intensive café use with up to approximately 150 shots per day. For continuous high-volume operation with more than 150 shots per hour, dedicated commercial grinders such as the Mahlkönig E65S or comparable models are better suited.

Does the Atlas 85 have a blow-up or single-dose system?

No. The Atlas 85 is a classic on-demand grinder based on the grind-by-time principle, featuring a bean hopper and an ACE system to prevent clumping. A blow-up system for virtually retention-free single-dose grinding is not part of the Atlas’s features.

Does Eureka’s 10-year motor warranty also apply to the Atlas 85?

No. The 10-year motor warranty offered by Eureka since June 6, 2025, applies exclusively to selected Mignon models and does not include the Atlas series. For the Atlas 85, the statutory warranty under German and European law applies via Naturbohne.

Frequently Asked Questions

I bought a new coffee grinder from Naturbohne and there are coffee residues in it.

Please note: Some manufacturers test their coffee grinders before shipping, which means that small coffee residues or bean residues can occasionally be found in the grinder. This procedure is used to test functionality and is considered a quality feature. Of course, we only sell new products - unless expressly stated otherwise.

Static charge – coffee grounds spray out from the side

With some coffee grinders, the ground coffee can become statically charged and spray out of the portafilter at the side. This means that not all of the ground coffee gets into the portafilter, which can lead to uneven extraction. Our recommendation: Use a dosing funnel to ensure that all of the ground coffee is precisely fed into the portafilter - for optimal espresso enjoyment.

What is dead space in coffee grinders?

Conventional coffee grinders often leave a so-called dead space in which coffee residues accumulate. These residues can not only affect the freshness, but also lead to old and fresh coffee grounds being mixed, which negatively affects the taste. In contrast, single dose grinders have a well-thought-out design that eliminates the dead space. Each portion is ground individually and precisely so that no residues are left behind - for a consistently pure and full-bodied coffee experience.

Which portafilter fits my espresso machine?

When choosing the right portafilter for your portafilter machine, it is important to know that each manufacturer develops its own brewing group - the most well-known is the Faema E61. However, this does not mean that any portafilter will fit without any problems. An incompatible portafilter can leak, which will have a direct negative impact on the quality of your espresso. We therefore recommend using either the portafilter originally supplied or one that is explicitly stated to be compatible with your machine. This will ensure that the pressure is optimally built up and the espresso is perfectly extracted.

Can I visit you or pick up the goods personally?

Yes, of course, you are welcome to come by and look at our products by appointment. We would be happy to advise you personally. The best thing to do is to send us an email with a few suggested appointment times.

We are located 5 minutes from the motorway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance on the edge of the Black Forest.

Important note, first use coffee grinders

Another little tip for the perfect start with your new mill:

You will get the best grinding result after you have ground about 1-2 kg of beans. It is best to use a few cheap beans so that the grinder can work optimally. And if you are wondering what you can do with the bean flour - it is perfect plant fertilizer! 🌿

It contains nitrogen, potassium, sulfur and phosphorus and is a real nutrient bomb for your plants.

Μπορείτε να πραγματοποιήσετε βαθμονόμηση offset στη μηχανή portafilter μου;
